Information Technology

The traditional notion of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) as an individual and separate industry holds less true at current as ICT skills are increasingly being used across all industries and society in general. ICT has become truly ‘all pervasive’ and is fast becoming the ‘new literacy’ as ICT competencies are increasingly necessary for profitability in business and survival in society. The ICT Training Package seeks to address the ICT skill requirements of all these components in the ICT industry.

Security Services

The security sector comprises people and companies mainly engaged in providing security, protection and private enquiry services – other than units of police forces and government security agencies. The sector covers a wide range of occupations, products and services. These can be categorised into three broad areas:

  • Electronic – Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) and surveillance, access control, video and audio intercom systems, integrated security and fire systems, home automation, building management systems; biometrics, alarms and alarm monitoring
  • Manpower – crowd control, airport security, guard services, mobile patrols, concierge duties, traffic management, emergency response, cash-in-transit services and risk assessments
  • Physical and barrier security – locksmiths, perimeter fencing, security grilles, bollards and boom gates; safes and records protection.

The community services sector assists and supports individuals, families and communities in need, contributing to the well being and quality of life of these Australians.

Training and Assessment

The wider education sector in Australia includes pre-school, school, VET and higher education. The VET sector includes both state-owned TAFE institutes and privately owned RTOs, excluding the Northern Territory which does not have a TAFE component. VET teachers and lecturers generally must hold an Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualification that includes assessment and delivery competencies in the Certificate IV.

Public Safety Industry

The Public Safety Industry comprises Police, Fire, State and Territory Emergency Services, Emergency Management and Defence sectors. The Public Safety Training Package provides units of competency and qualifications, which cover approximately 579,000 personnel employed/deployed by State/Territory and Commonwealth departments.

Retail Services

The retail and wholesale industries are made up of mainly small and medium-sized businesses. In 2009, they included almost 215,500 businesses and supported a large number of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), large employers as well as retail chains and franchising companies. The contribution of the retail trade sector to Australia’s gross domestic product (GDP) for 2009-10 was over AUD53 billion (4.4%).

Businesses in the industries cover a wide range of formats, such as supermarkets, department stores, discount department stores, speciality chains, commission-based retail and convenience stores. The retail services industries are distinct, with clear differences in the role each plays within the supply chain.

Elan and SOGA are not A Registered Training Organisation (RTO’s), however they do have MOU and partnering licence agreements with existing RTO’s to promote and offer their programs. All trainers and assessors are approved by the RTO and meet the NSSC requirements.

The documents required:

To make use of this service we would need copies of the following (as a guide):

  • Current Resume
  • Copies of all Certificates, Degrees, Diplomas, Statements of Attainment etc
  • Any job descriptions you may have
  • Printout of service history in any previous job
  • Letters of service, thank you letters/remarks, good work, commendations etc
  • All licences held, copies only
  • Documents and reports you have written (that relate to the qualifications)
  • Observations of you doing something, eg demonstrating a briefing of Security Personnel, Running Sheets, Incident forms, Supervisor Checklist’s etc
  • Projects/Task Forces you have contributed to, and third-party reports about these (eg from your supervisor
  • Questions, asked orally or in writing (any papers delivered)
  • Outcomes from learning programs (including self-learning and online learning)
  • Assessment feedback (from a trainer or assessor)
  • Observation checklists (from a workplace supervisor or assessor)
  • Written statements or references (including workplace supervisors, community leaders)

  • Product descriptions or specifications (supporting the product samples included)
  • Statutory declarations if original documents cannot be located.

    This course is designed for those who are currently working in or wishing to work within the Private Inquiry, PI Investigators/Surveillance Operatives- Agent Industry. This course involves giving you the skills and knowledge to act as a Private Inquiry agent and also as a Surveillance Operative. It involves professional statement taking, court preparation, creating briefs of evidence, foot surveillance, and vehicle surveillance Interview and Questioning techniques.
  • CPP40707 Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management (Distance/RPL – Classes held in ACT)
    The Certificate IV in Security and Risk Management is the fundamental qualification required by Security Consultants. It is the Licensing requirement to be issued a Security Consultants licence In Australia. It is also suitable for those who have a requirement to undertake Risk Management and analysis work within any area of their workplace or in their business activities.
  • PSP41104 Certificate IV in Government (Occupational Health & Safety)
    This is a nationally accredited course, which is designed for higher-level supervisors than line supervisors, OHS supervisors, union representatives or safety committee members, who are perhaps assistant safety officers/representatives, managers at both middle and senior management levels. On the job training is necessary to ensure an understanding of the outcomes required in each unit. The units cover a range of OHS functions relative to workplace roles, responsibilities and work levels.

    The course targets specifically workers in public sector but can be designed to suit students from private sector as required.
  • TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
    The TAA04 Training and Assessment Training Package is designed to meet the current and future competency development and qualification needs of new and existing personnel working in a broad range of work functions and activities within vocational education and training.
